Some options for a Failing Transmission

Transmission being taken apart

When a transmission is failing or have failed you can have major problems with accelerating or not be able to accelerate at all. There is no way to ignore a failing transmission, especially if your car doesn’t move. The two common options for a failed transmission or failing transmission are a transmission rebuild or transmission replacement.

What is a Transmission Rebuild?

A transmission rebuild can save you a lot of money, if your transmission is not to severely damaged to do a rebuild. For a transmission rebuild, a transmission builder mechanic will have to fully disassemble and clean the parts to determine what repairs are needed. Common transmission repairs are replacing parts, such as the clutch, gaskets, bands, or seals. Major damage may involve replacing multiple parts. A transmission rebuild is not only a more cost-effective option, but it ultimately means that you will get the up-to-date parts.

What is a Transmission Replacement?

Transmission replacements are easier for transmission mechanics to complete, since they will not have to disassemble the current transmission. Although this option can be more expensive, it may be the best option for you if there is a severe amount of damage. It is important to know that a transmission replacement is not a brand-new transmission. Transmission replacements are rebuilt transmissions built in a factory setting ahead of time. The downside to this is that since they are built ahead of time, then the all the parts may not be as up-to-date. The transmission will be rebuilt with the current up-to-date parts, though if times goes by since it was built there may be newer parts on the market that might have replaced or updated a component that could have originally cause the transmission failure in the first place.
