History of Lawson, Texas
Lawson, Texas was settled around 1847 and was known to have some wild Saturday night dancing which resulted in Lawson being called Slapfoot. Samuel Haught in 1866 obtained a post office, owned a steam gristmill, a sawmill, and a cotton gin. Lawson was a branch of South Mesquite Creek just five miles southeast of Mesquite and southeast of Dallas Country. When Haught left in 1890, in 1896 H.W. Lawson owned the general store and the name of the post office was changed to Lawson the following year and closed in 1905. In 1910 the population of Lawson was only 41. In 1964 the population had grown to 110. 1975 Lawson was shown on county maps until at least 1975. 1982 Lawson was annexed by Mesquite. To learn more about Lawson click here
