History of Scurry Texas

The town of Scurry was first settled in the 1840’s and named after a local man that was killed in the Civil War. His name was Scurry Dean. The County of Scurry was named after Confederate General William Scurry. In the 1870’s the Texas and Pacific Railway came through and the Post Office was established in 1883. Scurry is located along State Highway 34 in Kaufman Country just southeast of Dallas.
