Frequently Asked Questions about Transmission Repair
Does a Transmission Need to Be Serviced Regularly?
Regular transmission maintenance is recommended for optimal health of vehicles. Each make and model of a vehicle varies on how often to get it serviced. We recommend checking your transmission fluid around every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. For a more thorough estimate, look in your car manual.
What are Signs of a Transmission Problem?
Great question. Early detection of transmission problems can prevent major repairs. Here are some signs to be aware of: trouble shifting, engine light on, slipping gears, humming or unusual noises, burning smell, and leaking red tinted fluid under car. It’s best to get our vehicle check out if any one off these problems are detected.
Is it okay to drive with a transmission problem?
Even though a vehicle is operational with signs of a transmission problem, we do not recommend continuing to drive with a transmission problem—just drive to a transmission shop. If you are experiencing any signs of transmission problem, then it is best to get your vehicle check out as soon as possible to prevent further damage. It’s a safety risk for your vehicle, you, and others people driving on the road.
How to Know if My Transmission Fluid Needs to Be Changed?
Regularly checking your transmission fluid gives a good estimate of the age and condition of the fluid. If the transmission fluid is low or burnt, there is a problem. Oftentimes, old or low transmission fluid can result in other signs, such as difficulty shifting, trouble getting in gear, slipping gears, jumping gears, thumping between gears, unusual noises (whining, humming, clunking), or acceleration delay. If you have any of these problems, get your vehicle to a transmission shop as soon as possible.
