Engine Problem or Transmission Problem

Transmission Issues - Transmission Repair Shop

There are a few things to note when you think your car is having an engine problem over a transmission problem. Vehicles will usually give signs that there is a problem. Be sure to listen to any problems that your vehicle is trying to tell you. Sometimes you should have signs of a transmission problem when it is actually an engine problem. Here are some ways to identify what kind of problem you are having—engine problem or transmission.

1.Odd/Abnormal Sounds

When you notice a sound that doesn’t seem normal it could be either a transmission problem or engine problem as well. Engine problem could cause sounds like backfires, popping, or hissing. Any other sound could indicate a transmission problem. Regardless of the sound, it can only be diagnosed by a mechanic to know for certain.

2.Burnt Smell

A burning smell could mean that you have a transmission problem or an engine problem. If it is a transmission problem, it could be caused by low transmission fluid or other problems within the transmission. The only way to know for sure is to get it checked by a mechanic, preferably a transmission mechanic. If it is an engine problem, it may be caused by oil leaks, such as loose or damaged plugs, gaskets, or filters.

3.Check Engine Light is On

Check Engine Light can often be a sign that you have a transmission issue. This a common sign that people tend to ignore, because they may have had times where the Check Engine Light was a minor issue. Which there are cases where people are fortunate enough to discover that a loose cap was the cause for the Engine Light. It is important to note that the longer you delay getting your vehicle check, the worse the problem could get, so it is best to bring it in soon after you notice the engine light on.
