Is Your Car Showing Signs of Low Transmission Fluid?

Transmission fluid - transmission flush

Having low transmission fluid can be detrimental to your vehicle. Do you suspect low transmission fluid in your vehicle? Well, you are at the right place! Let’s review some common signs of low transmission fluid:

Leaking Fluid

Transmission fluid is enclosed in the transmission, so it should never get low like engine oil regularly does. So, if it is low that means that there is definitely a leak. If you notice a red tinted fluid under your vehicle, then you may have leaking transmission fluid. This is a common sign of low transmission fluid.

Overheating

The purpose of transmission fluid is to lubricate and keep the transmission at a cool temperature. Without transmission fluid, your transmission can not function correctly because it would have no lubrication to keep it from overheating. An overheated transmission can cost a lot to repair or it not addressed soon enough could lead to transmission failure.

Slipping Gears

Gear slippage is also a very common sign of low transmission fluid. When transmission fluid is low it does not receive an accurate amount of fluid to engage your gears. That is why slipping gears is one of the most common signs of low transmission fluid. If your have experienced your engine revving or lose power out of nowhere, then you probably have a transmission problem.

Odd Noises

Is your vehicle making strange noises (such as humming or whining) when you change gears? It could mean that you have low transmission fluid. Any unusual sound from your vehicle during neutral or during gear changes could be the cause of insufficient lubrication.

Signs of low transmission fluid should be inspected as soon as possible to prevent transmission failure. If your vehicle had any of these warning signs, get your vehicle to a transmission shop today!
